The most disadvantaged children of Africa are victims of extreme poverty, AIDS, war, street violence, sexual abuse, and various other disempowering conditions.
Many African parents are either ill, not financially able to care for their children or dying at an early age as a result of severe health and wartime circumstances. Children are placed in an unfortunate situation of having to grow up without parents and even be responsible for their younger siblings.
In addition, many villages are without the adults to provide guidance, protection, community governance, and continue important traditional ceremonial rituals. Without the guidance and care of adult leadership, the children are challenged to rise above the economic devastation in their villages to live a safe, healthy, and prosperous life. The need exists to work with the young people in order that they have hope and opportunities to achieve a better life.
To promote the healthy development of poor, orphaned and street children in Africa. We will do this by supporting and training youth workers to coordinate services that meet their basic needs and provide educational, sports, leadership and community service, entrepreneurship, health, art, and life skills programs.
The vision is to bring resources training and supportive services to interested African communities in order that a wide range of programs, activities, and services are provided to the youth to help them better take care of themselves and to strengthen their community. This initiative also includes coordinating efforts to define and celebrate contemporary rites of passages for the youth, social and behavioral learning standards, and programs to expand hope and opportunities for orphaned street children, abused, neglected and other vulnerable children.
